As of right now, the Pittsburgh Steelers will enter the 2022 season with Mason Rudolph as their starting quarterback.

Of course, no one actually believes that's what will happen. Rudolph is a solid spot starter, but he's not the quarterback that's going to take the Steelers to a Super Bowl.

That quarterback could be Deshaun Watson, who is expected to be traded from the Houston Texans this offseason.

Multiple reports have indicated that Pittsburgh is not in the Watson sweepstakes (the New Orleans Saints and Carolina Panthers appear to be pushing the hardest right now).

Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson, however, is likely hoping Pittsburgh changes their mind.

Over the weekend, Johnson liked a tweet from Stephen A. Smith that said the Steelers should "exhaust" every option" to land Watson in a trade.

Numerous well-connected Pittrsbugh area reporters have maintained that the Steelers won't be trying to deal for Watson. So this might be wishful thinking from Johnson.

I'm not sure that's a wise choice by the Steelers. Watson is an elite quarterback when he's on the field. If teams are comfortable with Watson's off-field issues — and that could still be an issue with pending civil suits — then any team with a need at quarterback should at least be exploring a trade for Watson.

(The Saints and the Panthers, at the least, are comfortable with Watson from a legal standpoint.)

The Steelers should listen to their roster — especially the wide receivers. Ultimately, they're the ones who have to make it work with whichever quarterback ends up starting for Pittsburgh next season.
