The Pittsburgh Steelers have three doors they can open at quarterback in 2026.

Door No. 1 is the return of Aaron Rodgers, which continues to pick up steam following many of the Steelers’ coaching hires. Door No. 2 is spending valuable capital, whether it be free agency or the NFL Draft, on a quarterback. Door No. 3 would be letting former Ohio State Buckeyes national champion Will Howard run the show.

We know that new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy is on board with option three, and we know how the Steelers brass feels about Howard. But what about the rest of the league? Well, one of the NFL’s best players just took a first-class seat on the Howard hype train.

Maxx Crosby sings the praises of Will Howard

Howard may have fallen to the sixth round of the NFL Draft, but many believed he had the tools to be a mid-round pick. One thing that was undeniable when watching Howard at Ohio State was the it factor. The moxy, the competitive stamina, the will to win that you want to see from a franchise quarterback.

Well, Maxx Crosby sees just that.

“I’m a Will Howard believer, I’m not gonna lie,” Crosby said via his podcast The Rush on YouTube. “I think he’s a hell of a player. I think Will Howard’s got the size. He’s got the intangibles. He’s talented. He’s a smart quarterback. I think Will Howard just sitting there, learning behind [Mike] McCarthy and [Aaron] Rodgers is gonna do that franchise a lot of great things.”

Howard transferred from Kansas State ahead of the 2024 season, and many were underwhelmed by the move. However, when you talk to people who cover the program, they all say the same thing. That Howard was beloved, his teammates respected him, and he was willing to give it his all.

After losing to the Oregon Ducks and Michigan Wolverines, Howard didn’t blink. He led the Buckeyes on a magical College Football Playoff run that resulted in the team’s first championship in a decade. While I‘m not sure what Howard’s role is in the NFL, given his limited playing time due to injury, it feels unwise to bet against him.
