With the number one seed in the AFC locked up, the Baltimore Ravens have little to nothing on the line against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday.
Typically, this is a week where teams rest their starters once they have staked their claim at the postseason.
But according to Ravens HC John Harbaugh, that may not be the case:
Lamar Jackson May Play?
“I have not made any decisions on personnel yet," said Ravens HC John Harbaugh on Monday when asked whether or not the team would play their starters against the Steelers in Week 18. "We’ve got to kind of work through the injury part of it first. That’ll take us probably 24 to 48 hours to get a real handle on that, and then we’ll make those decisions. We’re not going to keep it a secret. We’ll let you know what we’re going to do once we start practicing.”
For Pittsburgh, the easiest path to the playoffs starts with a win in Baltimore. The likelihood that occurs is a lot lower if Jackson and others are on the field compared to the Ravens' backups.
So we'll see where things go during the week. Practice status will likely be a key determinant in who's in and who's out, seeing as the Ravens will want to get their backups reps as first-teamers if they do decide to sit the starters.
So maybe Harbaugh is just playing chess, or maybe Lamar wants a final push to stake his claim at the MVP trophy.
We'll find out soon enough.
