The Pittsburgh Steelers have the potential to be a very dangerous team in the AFC in 2022 thanks to their dominant defense.

But they have to decide whether or not quarterback Mason Rudolph — who is currently the No. 1 quarterback on the Steelers' depth chart — is going to be their starting quarterback in 2022.

It's unclear what Pittsburgh plans to do this offseason — they could make a trade, sign a free agent, draft a quarterback, or roll with Rudolph.

It appears, however, that Pittsburgh is at least considering the free agent route.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported on Monday night that the Steelers are one of the teams interested in former No. 2 overall pick Mitch Trubisky.

Trubisky spent the first four years of his career with the Chicago Bears. He signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills this past year (where he backed up Josh Allen) after the Bears didn't pick up his fifth-year option.

There are wildly varying opinions on Trubisky as a quarterback. Some folks feel like the main issue for him in Chicago was former head coach Matt Nagy. The thought is that Trubisky, who will be 28 when the 2022 season begins, could thrive under a different coach. The potential is certainly there.

There's also this stat — Trubisky has the fourth-best winning percentage since 2018 among active quarterbacks.

Trubisky could be a cheap option for the Steelers that would allow them to upgrade other parts of their roster (specifically their offensive line).

And who knows, maybe Trubisky ends up being the great quarterback with the Steelers that the Bears thought he was in 2017. Coaching matters. And Pittsburgh could be the team to finally unlock Trubisky's talent.
