The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly looking to trade quarterback Mason Rudolph.
It makes sense. Pittsburgh will likely roll with Mitch Trubisky as their starter this season and they view Kenny Pickett as their long-term answer at quarterback.
At this point, there's no need for Rudolph, a former Oklahoma State standout who has started 10 games for the Steelers over the last four years.
A trade would be ideal. The only problem is that Pittsburgh reportedly has a ridiculous asking price.
According to 93.7 The Fan's Andrew Fillipponi, the Steelers are asking for a third-round or fourth-round pick for Rudolph.
No team in the NFL is going to give Pittsburgh a fourth-round pick for a quarterback who has started 10 games (with a 5-4-1 record) in four years.
Especially when you could get Jimmy Garoppolo from the San Francisco 49ers for a similar price (maybe cheaper, considering Garoppolo has a higher salary).
Whoever trades for Rudolph (Fillipponi thinks he'll end up with the Detroit Lions) likely will be acquiring him to be a backup.
The only way Rudolph is a starter in 2022 is if a team suffers an injury at quarterback and they need a replacement. And even then, I doubt a team is giving up a fourth-round pick for Rudolph.
I can't blame the Steelers for trying, but they're going to have back off the asking price for Rudolph if they're serious about trading the veteran quarterback.
