The Pittsburgh Steelers didn't make the splashy move to draft a QB high in the 2025 NFL Draft. However, they still added seven players by the time the final pick was announced.
Since the draft ended, the team has been hard at work finalizing their rookie class by signing multiple undrafted players. One of them looks primed to make the rest of the league regret passing on him.
The Steelers signed Iowa safety Sebastian Castro who went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft

In my opinion, Iowa safety Sebastian Castro is the headliner for the Steelers' 2025 UDFA class. Castro began his college career in 2020 and spent all five years at Iowa. He didn't log a single start until the 2022 season, when he started eight of the 13 games he appeared in. He became a full-time starter for his final two years with the program.
His best year with the team came in 2023, when he logged career highs across the board with three interceptions, eight pass deflections, eight tackles for loss, and 67 total tackles. He has more upside in coverage than some believe due to his lack of production in that regard in 2024.
Castro didn't test well at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine with him logging a slightly above average 4.59 40-yard dash and a poor explosion showing with only a 30.5" vertical and 9-9 broad jump. But athletic testing doesn't always provide the full picture for a player's athleticism. For example, Castro's 40 time doesn't point towards him having great on-field speed. But at the 2025 Senior Bowl, he reached the seventh-highest mph speed on field of any player during the first practice of the week at 20.39 MPH. Here are some players with great 40 times, whose max speed in practice was slower than Castro's during the week's first practice at the Senior Bowl.
- Caleb Ransaw, CB, Tulane – 4.33 40-yard dash
- Chimere Dike, WR, Florida – 4.34 40-yard dash
- Jaylin Lane, WR, Virginia Tech – 4.34 40-yard dash
- Jacob Parrish, CB, Kansas State – 4.35 40-yard dash
- Arian Smith, WR, Georgia – 4.36 40-yard dash
