Despite what many believe to be a young team that needs some maturing before taking the next step, the Pittsburgh Steelers are in win-now mode.
The main reason for that is a defense that has not just Pro Bowlers or All-Pros in multiple units, but potential Hall-of-Fame candidates.
But one player has already left a lasting legacy on the city of Pittsburgh, with the chance to enshrine himself this season:
Cameron Heyward, DL

Cam Heyward has been one of the best players in the history of the Pittsburgh Steelers, regardless of position. Through 12 accrued seasons, the perennial Pro Bowler has only one season where he played in less than 15 games and has recorded gaudy stats and accolades including:
- Six Pro Bowls
- Three All-Pro First-Team selections
- 78.5 sacks
- 614 tackles
To show why this year is so important for his Canton campaign, let's compare his numbers to Hall of Fame defensive tackle Warren Sapp.
Heyward will match Sapp in seasons this year at 13, along with the chance to tie him in Pro Bowls at seven, and All-Pro First Team selections with four.
Now obviously that's asking a lot for a player that just turned 34 in May, but the Pittsburgh native is coming off a Pro Bowl season and that was without T.J. Watt for a big stretch, only making his life along the defensive line more difficult.
So if his counterparts on the edge can stay healthy, and his reinforcements along the interior can play Robin to his Batman, expect Heyward to all but punch his ticket to Canton in 2023.
