The Pittsburgh Steelers are cutting one of their quarterbacks ahead of Tuesday's deadline to be at 80 players on the roster.
As expected, rookie Chris Oladokun is being released after being under the shadow of a three-way quarterback battle all offseason, per Pro Football Network's Aaron Wilson. Despite being a draft pick earlier this year, the South Dakota State prospect always had a very tough path to the 53-man roster.
Even if it didn't work out, Oladokun's athleticism was worth a shot late in the Draft. Olakodun passed for 3,164 yards and 25 touchdowns in his lone season with the Jackrabbits. Before that, he had played in Samford and South Florida.
Now the Steelers will focus on figuring out what to do with their other three quarterbacks. Kenny Pickett's performance in the preseason has turned up the pressure on Pittsburgh's coaching staff as the rookie has exceeded early expectations.
As things stand right now, the QB1 battle appears to be between Mitchell Trubisky and Kenny Pickett. Meanwhile, Mason Rudolph's solid offseason has the national media speculating about a potential trade.
The alternative is to carry three quarterbacks throughout the season, which could very well be worth it.
