It's a rarity to be the parent of an NFL football player. 

But to be the parents of three NFL players, all who excelled at their respective position, and who either played together or against each other…Well, you are probably more likely to be struck by lightning and hit the lottery on the same day than to have that happen. 

And following the latest announcement from former Steelers FB Derek Watt, current Steelers OLB T.J. Watt is the only member of the trio left standing in the NFL:

Derek Watt Announces Retirement 

“I am retiring from this incredible game feeling full of gratitude and satisfaction knowing that I gave it my all each and every day,” Derek Watt said in his statement. “Never took any shortcuts and achieved so many of my goals along the way. It was all worth it.”

Watt was drafted in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the then San Diego Chargers, playing four seasons with the team before joining the Steelers and his brother T.J. Watt in 2020, playing for three years before his contract ran out last offseason. 

A true football player, Derek played the most hardnosed position of all three Watt's and that's saying something considering both J.J. and T.J. are future first ballot Hall of Famers at DL and OLB respectively. 

So after a seven-year career that garnered him respect among his peers, Watt can retire knowing he left it all on the gridiron
