The Pittsburgh Steelers are currently two games out of the final playoff spot in the AFC, making each game until the season's end a postseason contest for them. This Sunday, they host the Ravens in their first of two meetings in the next four weeks, and they'll have more soldiers on the frontline when they do.
Edge rusher T.J. Watt, wide receiver Diontae Johnson, and linebacker Malik Reed will all play versus the Ravens after previously being listed as questionable.
Watt is dealing with a nagging rib injury. It's been an injury-plagued year for Watt who suffered a torn pectoral muscle in the Steelers' season-opening win against the Bengals, putting him on injured reserve for four weeks. Also, he had arthroscopic knee surgery in October.
The reigning Defensive Player of the Year has missed seven games this season and has yet to have a breakout performance, logging just 1.5 sacks so far. With the Ravens on the menu in Week 14, it's the perfect time for one.
Johnson, who leads all Steelers receivers with 565 yards, hurt his hip late in Pittsburgh's win over the Falcons last week. Despite it affecting his ability to run and having to manage his pain tolerance, Johnson says he's ready to go.
“We will see how it feels when I go out there Sunday,” Johnson said. “I’m for sure, in my mind, I‘m gonna play.”
Reed is dealing with a back injury at the moment. Having him on the field gives the Steelers their primary backup edge rusher which is critical due to Watt possibly being on a pitch count.
This is good news with a tough task for the Steelers against the Ravens on Sunday.
