There is arguably no relationship of greater importance in pro sports than head coach and QB.

I'm not saying the two parties need to be best friends (see Bill Belichick and Tom Brady) but they need to be on the same page and men of similar character for a team to be successful.

And according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, part of the reason why Russell Wilson is going to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers is the way he hit it off with his soon-to-be HC:

Wilson & Tomlin Meeting Went 'Perfectly'

"He [Russell Wilson] was in a room with Mike Tomlin for a couple hours, and they hit it off in a way that was described to me as perfection," said Bleacher Report insider Jordan Schultz on Monday's edition of Speak on FS1. "When you put Russell Wilson in a room, he excels. Mike Tomlin is the same type of guy. They related on a human level way beyond football, and as a result, it created a level of comfort that made them [Wilson & Tomlin] feel like they could take this to a really successful place."

Now this shouldn't be surprising, as anyone who follows the Steelers knows you will be hard-pressed to find a HC that works a hot mic like Tomlin. And when you can get him in a private setting where he can let his guard down, I'm sure his genuine love and passion for the game was matched by Wilson's.

But to be clear, Tomlin is very much a Kenny Pickett guy, with the expectations and intentions of the Russell Wilson signing made very clear by Tomlin and the front office. That was first reported here, and as recently as Monday afternoon by Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

There will be no handouts, and despite what the media wants you to believe, there will be an all-out training camp battle, with the QB who comes out on top in Latrobe earning the title of Steelers QB in 2024.
