The Pittsburgh Steelers will be going all in at the WR position this offseason. The two avenues are free agency and, of course, the NFL Draft. Multiple darts need to be thrown at the wall so that the Steelers never see a game like what happened against the Cleveland Browns in Week 17.

Well, in just a matter of weeks, free agency will begin, the floodgates will open, and the Steelers, armed with some of the most effective cap space in the league, will be looking to make plenty of additions. Only, following the latest NFL news, the Steelers don’t have to wait until March to make a big-time move at wide receiver.

Dolphins release WR Tyreek Hill

“Miami’s eight-time Pro-Bowl WR Tyreek Hill is being released. Hill turns 32 on March 1, is recovering from a dislocated knee and torn ACL, and now will be an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his NFL career,” – Adam Schefter, ESPN

Now there is a strong chance that Hill misses the 2026 season, or at least a good portion of it. His knee injury on Monday Night Football against the New York Jets was one of the most gruesome injuries you will see on a football field.

Hill is also going to be 32-years-old, and you have to wonder about how much he really has left in the tank. But here’s the thing, even if Hill loses a step, I would wager that he is still among the fastest players in the league. In that very Jets game, where his season ended, Hill was on a tear, going for six catches and nearly 70 yards. He was unguardable.

Why Tyreek Hill makes sense for the Steelers

Now, you’re getting a player who has Hall of Fame qualities, on a prove it deal, with little to no risk given that he won’t be receiving a long-term deal as the Dolphins are the ones on the hook in terms of dead cap given his contract.

So I’m not saying to sign Hill to some lucrative deal with multiple years tied to it. But for a team that looks poised to run it back with Aaron Rodgers and has players like T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward approaching the twilight of their careers, taking a flier on one of the best players to ever grace the WR position seems more than fair to me.
