Finding a capable quarterback in the NFL is no picnic. That's not only true for starting signal-callers but backups as well. So naturally, when you appear to have three of those like the Pittsburgh Steelers do, trade rumors will emerge.
With Mitchell Trubisky slated to win the starting job and Kenny Pickett slotted as the medium-to-long-term plan, the name that would make the most sense for such rumors is Mason Rudolph.
While Rudolph is an uninspiring proposition as QB1, chances are plenty of NFL teams would love to have a backup with his skills.
Even though he's done a good job in Pittsburgh this offseason and has some people thinking that he should be the starting quarterback, having Pickett suit up as the backup throughout the season is likely the plan if his development is the priority.
Steelers GM Omar Khan was asked about the possibility of trading away any of his three quarterbacks during a recent interview on The Pat McAfee Show.
"You take calls but I'll be honest with you, we don't have any intention of trading any of those guys. We really like them," said Khan. There are some decisions to be made but I'll be surprised if anything happens on that path."
You can catch the full interview below:
At the end of the day, the Steelers should be in no hurry to trade away any of their quarterbacks. Not even Trubisky has a massive cap hit that heavily impacts the team.
If you ask me, it would take a serious QB injury around the league to make that sound on the other end of the phone enticing enough for Pittsburgh. Otherwise, it's hard to imagine the Steelers being interested.
By the way, Khan also shared there have been general managers around the NFL who have wanted to take advantage of him being a rookie at the job.
But the new Steelers GM has been in the business for a while, so fans shouldn't fear him getting taken advantage of.
