The Pittsburgh Steelers had a busy week of hiring on the South Side. After introducing Mike McCarthy as their head coach, the Steelers hired Patrick Graham as their defensive coordinator and made James Campen their offensive line coach, signaling a full-court press to bring back Aaron Rodgers.

Well, now they have another name on their radar that would make a ton of sense for the Steelers and signals that Mike McCarthy can lure away some notable candidates.

Steelers hire Jahri Evans as offensive line assistant

Evans won the Super Bowl with the New Orleans Saints during the Sean Payton and Drew Brees era, and he has been in the NFL coaching ranks since 2022, working his way up from being a preseason coaching intern to the assistant offensive line coach with the Saints. For more on the hire, I reached out to A to Z Sports New Orleans writer Adam Holt.

“Evans is a Saints Super Bowl champion, so pulling him away from the organization that he played with for a decade is impressive for the Steelers contingency. He’s quickly garnered respect in the building in New Orleans with multiple different staffs in place. Kellen Moore and his incoming group last offseason noticed his impact and how much players valued Evans’ voice, so he stayed in the fold and even got an upgrade in his influence for game planning/development along the OL unit.”

“For the Steelers, I love this move. For a staff who is looked at as being a more “veteran” style with the hire of Mike McCarthy, a young assistant like Evans can provide an influx of new ideas and connect with players in a way that some other coaches simply can’t due to no fault of their own. He lived the NFL life of an offensive lineman, and he dominated during his time in the pros. Evans understands what it takes to become one of the most consistent interior OL in the league for nearly a decade, so I’m really interested to see what he can do for the up-and-coming talent there in Pittsburgh.”
