Pittsburgh Steelers are going all out in their effort to bring back Aaron Rodgers following a surprise offensive hire
The Steelers just hired one of Aaron Rodgers’ favorite coaches.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are finalizing their coaching staff this week, having already named Patrick Graham as their defensive coordinator. The Steelers have turned to the offensive side of the ball, and it’s not a coincidence that many of them have roots in Green Bay.
Even more compelling, they all have ties to the man who could be playing quarterback yet again for the Steelers in 2026.
Steelers hire James Campen as offensive line coach
Campen was with the Green Bay Packers from 2007-2017, coaching the line in front of Rodgers for a decade. He was a key cog in one of the best passing offenses in the NFL during Rodgers’ reign in Green Bay, and, aside from Mike McCarthy, he’s probably the single biggest determining factor in Rodgers’ potential return.
Adding his old backup quarterback could help as well…
Steelers interviewing Scott Tolzien for OC job
Tolzien backed up Rodgers for a few years with the Packers in the mid 2000’s before climbing the ranks in the NFL coaching circles. Tolzien most recently worked as quarterback coach for the New Orleans Saints, where he saw Tyler Shough perform well as a rookie. To learn more about Tolzien, I reached out to Adam Holt of A to Z Sports New Orleans.
“Keeping a coaching staff consistent around a young quarterback is important, so this report regarding Tolzien may concern the Saints. He’s garnering interest after playing a role in Tyler Shough’s development last offseason, as well as his work as the starter during the season once Kellen Moore turned to him and benched Spencer Rattler.”
“At just 38 years old, it would make a lot of sense for McCarthy to target Tolzien for this role. He wouldn’t have to call plays and could instead continue garnering experience in game preparation, playbook additions, and more. Tolzien played with Rodgers and Andrew Luck during his career, so he was also surrounded by some cerebral players at the QB position while in the league as a player.”
“He’s quickly garnered respect from both the Saints and Dallas Cowboys as a pivotal piece to their offensive staffs in recent years. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a top candidate for McCarthy with the Steelers.” – Holt
