When the Pittsburgh Steelers placed rookie Cory Trice Jr. on IR about a month ago, head coach Mike Tomlin limited the details to "a significant knee injury", only.
Many assumed it was a torn ACL or at least something of that variety, but teams don't have to release injury info during the offeseason/training camp/preseason, so no one outside the building knew, for sure.
Sure enough, a few weeks later, that suspicion was confirmed by NFL insider, Adam Caplan.
A source with knowledge of the situation said that seventh-round rookie CB Cory Trice, who wound up suffering a torn ACL during a training camp practice in early August, was doing exceptionally well and was a leading candidate to be one of the team’s top backup outside players at the position. – Adam Caplan, Pro Football Network
It usually takes players about nine months to recover from an ACL injury and that's the time it takes to get back on the field and in a position to where one can simply play. That's not "returning to form", so to speak.
If all goes well Trice should be ready to go by the time OTAs roll around in 2024. Hopefully he can pick up right where he left off as he tries to get his NFL career on track.
