When George Pickens was suddenly inactive ahead of Sunday's game vs. the Cleveland Browns, many eyebrows were raised.
Following a string of outbursts and antics, a conspiracy theory that Pickens had been benched as opposed to sat because of a hamstring injury started brewing.
But on Monday morning, news came down that Pickens' hamstring injury is very real, and may cost him another week:
George Pickens Has Grade 2 Hamstring Injury
"Yeah I think that is a nice conspiracy theory Randall but I can tell you that is not the case," Pittsburgh Post Gazette reporter Gerry Dulac told Randy Baumann and the DVE Morning Show, when asked about George Pickens missing Sunday's game. "He has a grade 2 hamstring injury which is typically two weeks. I don’t think they are expecting him to play in Philadelphia either."
Sunday may have been a wake-up for George Pickens, as he watched his team drop 27 points and spread the ball around to a plethora of pass catchers, showing that Steelers' wins don't have to revolve around George Pickens.
That being said, if the reporting is accurate and the Steelers travel to Philly without him, it's going to be tough sledding against a Vic Fangio lead defense.
"We didn't feel like he was going to be able to play the type of number of snaps that we thought would be worth putting him in a uniform," Tomlin said of Pickens after the game. "To be quite honest with you, we didn't want a small problem to become a big problem, and so we put a helmet on Scotty Miller, and as you can see, most of the time when you put the helmets on the healthy guys, man, they take care of the rest."
Pittsburgh's toughest stretch of the season starts now. Come Sunday in Philly, they will play three games in just 10 days including back-to-back road trips against Philly and Baltimore before welcoming in the Kansas City Chiefs on Christmas Day.
So Pittsburgh has a big decision to make. Force Pickens back too soon in an effort to beat the Eagles and potentially lose him for longer, or go into the toughest game of the year without your best offensive weapon.
We'll know what happens by the end of the week.
