The offseason is often a time of reflection in the NFL. Teams, media, and the league itself look back on the year that was, with the intent of improving the season to come.

Recently, we saw the NFLPA release a survey regarding the state of NFL franchises, as voted on by each team's own players. Now, Football Outsiders is releasing their own findings from the 2022 season.

Football Outsiders is an analytics website that looks at advanced metrics to see the game within the game.

One of their key analytics is a stat known as AGL or adjusted games lost. This was designed to specifically determine how many games a team should or should not have lost based on injury health.

The website describes the stat as:

"Football Outsiders' adjusted games lost metric measures injuries to starters and important situational players."

The latest findings are out, with the results for all 32 teams available

Steelers fans should be particularly interested in these results, given the backlash the NFLPA grades caused.

Good news Pittsburgh, the Steelers come away swimmingly in this metric.

When describing the league-best AGL that Pittsburgh achieved, Football outsiders said:

"Finally, we have to point out the very tiny offensive AGL put up by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Their starting lineup on offense missed two games all season. TWO! Kenny Pickett was inactive with a concussion in Week 15, and Pat Freiermuth was inactive with a concussion in Week 6. This is definitely one reason why the Steelers came out a surprising 18th in offensive DVOA despite a rookie quarterback."

DVOA is another advanced metric, used by a variety of outlets to discern offenses and defenses from one another with tangible data. The site describes it as such:

"DVOA measures a team's efficiency by comparing success on every single play to a league average based on situation and opponent.

Sorting through all the numbers and graphs, the bottom line is that Steelers players should be confident in the staff around them.

When comparing these grades to the NFLPA ones, it makes sense given the Steelers A+ graded strength staff and B+ graded training staff.

What should also be noted is that this is not some one-off year. The Steelers have a history of performing above the rest in AGL.

Pittsburgh has been in the top 10 for AGL in six of the last seven seasons per the data

So in a league where your most important ability is availability, Pittsburgh is setting the standard.
