The first known change to the Pittsburgh Steelers coaching staff has been revealed.

Per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, inside linebackers coach Aaron Curry is leaving Pittsburgh to become the linebackers coach for the New York Jets.

Curry spent the past two years as Pittsburgh's ILB coach after being hired in February of 2023. He worked directly with Payton Wilson, the team's third-round pick from the 2024 NFL Draft, and helped the rookie log the second-most snaps and second-highest defense grade from Pro Football Focus out of all first-year linebackers this past season.

Before arriving in Pittsburgh, Curry was the defensive line coach for Charlotte from 2015-18. He ascended to the NFL as a defensive assistant for the Seattle Seahawks from 2019-22. As a player, Curry leveraged a great college career to become the fourth overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft by the Seahawks. His pro career ended before the 2013 season began and included three total teams.

New York is currently assembling its coaching staff under newly-hired head coach Aaron Glenn, who comes from a defensive background. Glenn's defensive coordinator is Steve Wilks, and Curry will be one of Wilks' top assistants.

Glenn is also not the only Jets hire who played as recently as the 2010s. Former NFL safety Chris Harris, who retired after 2012, is also joining New York’s AFC team after two years with the Tennessee Titans.

As for other changes on the Steelers' coaching staff, that isn't expected outside of guys like Glenn leaving for other opportunities.

"Mike [Tomlin] certainly knows that he's evaluating his staff and will continue to do so," Steelers owner Art Rooney II recently said. "But the coaching staff, I think most of it will stay in place. Our coordinators, I think, will stay in place. I look forward to having Arthur Smith for a second year and having him have more of an opportunity to kind of really put his system in place. So there's work to be done. And for the most part, I think we have the right people and the right jobs to do it."

If Curry fell into the "right people" category, then the Steelers will now have the unexpected task of replacing him.
