The Pittsburgh Steelers have more wins than losses this season, but you wouldn't know it if you only watched the first three-quarters of their games.
Stagnant, inefficient, and downright inept, the Steelers offense is often nonexistent for three quarters.
But then a spark tends to be lit, and the offense and their QB come alive. The trend is so notable, that even Coach Tomlin knows it's true:
Kenny Win-It
"He's awesome in the fourth quarter man," Coach Tomlin told reporters. "He rises up in those moments. He wants to be the reason why we're successful. He prepares his tail off. In some instances where people run from challenges, he runs to challenges, and so that's why his performance is so good in the fourth. Those other quarters we'll work on."
Don't get me wrong, the end result is what matters, but man if the first three quarters were even close to the last one for Pickett, who knows what this team's record would be.
And sure, not all of that is on Pickett, and if we are using the most recent game as a barometer, Pickett was once again off for most of the game, but came up big when it mattered most:
“At the end of the day, all you want is a winner," former Steelers WR Hines Ward told Forbes magazine when asked about Pickett. "The only stat that means anything is wins and losses. As a quarterback, things sometimes start off slow, but it's about the moments, right? When I look at situational football, Kenny has rose to the occasion. When they need to make a play in the fourth quarter and need a comeback drive, I like what I see.”
So for the time being, Kenny Clutch will have to do. But if he is to be a franchise QB in this city for the next 10-15 years, the first three quarters will need to start to emulate the fourth.
Everything thus far has shown us Pickett is up for the challenge.
