With the Pittsburgh Steelers season officially over, the time for offseason discussion is upon us.

And now that we know Coach Tomlin will be back at least for the duration 2024, the dynamic has shifted to what the Steelers should do about their QB issues.

Well, ESPN analyst and former NFL QB Dan Orlovsky has not one, not two, but three different candidates, including a familiar face:

Kirk, Fields, and…Baker Mayfield

“The [Steelers] number one call should be to Chicago, and you’re trying to see where they stand with Justin Fields, if they’re going to take somebody at number one or keep him,” Dan Orlovsky said on NFL LIve. “The second call would be to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I don’t think Baker Mayfield is going to leave them, considering they are in the divisional round, but I would make that my second call. My third call would be to the Minnesota Vikings. Where do you stand on Kirk Cousins?”

While the Steelers have played against all three of those QBs and their respective teams in recent years, none of them come with the detailed scouting report that Baker Mayfield does, seeing as he was a divisional opponent for four seasons including one where he and the Browns dismantled Pittsburgh in a wildcard game.

In all honesty, it would be a stretch to believe that any QB other than Kenny Pickett or Mason Rudolph will be calling the signals in 2024 in Pittsburgh.

But maybe things change this offseason. Pittsburgh will certainly be hiring a new offensive coordinator after the unprecedented in-season firing of Matt Canada.

So Perhaps the days of tradition are gone and the Steelers start taking chances.
