The 2025 season starts now for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The busiest week of the year in the NFL, the Steelers have plenty of holes to fill and even more cap space.
Check out the tracker below for every notable move from Pittsburgh over the next few weeks.
Reminder: Free agency signings can not become official until the new league year begins on Wednesday at 4:00 pm EST.
Trades
DK Metcalf Joins the Steelers
The Steelers were able to acquire Metcalf for a mere second-round pick in April's draft. A light amount of compensation for a WR of his stature, the same can't be said for his contract extension.
Metcalf upon the trade becoming official will be given a five year, $150m contract, per multiple sources. The recently turned 27-year-old still had two years on his deal, so he is under contract with the Steelers until he turns 33 years old.
Re-signings
Jaylen Warren Signs Second-Round Tender
The writing was on the wall for nearly a month, when Warren was first reported to receive the tender and then GM Omar Khan openly admitted as much at the 2025 NFL Combine.
What is interesting, however, is the tender the Steelers used on Warren. It was believed that they may use a right of first refusal tender, which would grant the Steelers the right to match any offer sheet that Warren may have received.
Expected Signings
Malik Harrison
Harrison is unlikely to compete for starting snaps given the roles of Patrick Queen, Payton Wilson, and the return of Cole Holcomb. What this move likely signals, is that LB Elandon Roberts, a player who is very similar to Harrison but more seasoned in his career and on an expiring contract, is likely on his way out.
Kenneth Gainwell
Darius Slay
Brandin Echols
Mason Rudolph
Departures
Justin Fields to the Jets
So here's the 411. Fields has questions about the Steelers' loyalty. He couldn't gain assurance from the Steelers brass when it came to him keeping the starting role, so he wants to test the market, potentially drive up the Steelers' price, and make them pay to ensure his spot. They were unwilling to meet either one of his demands, both in the team specifics and monetarily.
