The Pittsburgh Steelers are headed into a Monday Night Football showdown against the New York Giants, with a one game lead in the AFC North on the line.
The success through this portion of the season can largely be attributed to a dominant defense that has forced 16 total turnovers in just seven games.
Well, in his latest mock draft for A to Z Sports, draft analyst Ryan Roberts decided to double down on defense in Pittsburgh:
Steelers Select Kentucky CB Maxwell Hairston
Working mostly from off coverage, Hairston has a tremendous change of direction skills and a propensity for creating big plays. This type of ball hawk would be a great pairing to go on the other side of Joey Porter Jr.
– Ryan Roberts, A to Z Sports NFL Draft
The Steelers have a type at CB and it aligns with the traits present in Hairston's game. He's a long, lean, and linear corner at 6-1 and around 185-190 pounds. As Roberts explained, he brings a physical presence to the perimeter, but unlike Joey Porter Jr. who locks down one side of the field, Hairston is unafraid to gamble, and he'll come up with some much-needed turnovers.
It's clear that the Steelers need a WR, and no one would bat an eye if they decided to break a near two-decade-long trend and select one in the first round. And Donte Jackson has played very well to this point in the season, proving that the Steelers GM Omar Khan might be a trade master at this point.
And one thing good teams do is build upon their strengths. There are four positions you can never have enough of: wide receivers, offensive tackles, pass rushers, and cornerbacks.
The Steelers can't go wrong with any of those positions in the 2025 NFL Draft, with Hairston fitting the mold.
