Despite holding court atop their division with a 4-1 record under the command of Russell Wilson, the Pittsburgh Steelers QB of the future is still unknown.

With no signal caller under contract past the end of this season, Pittsburgh will have plenty of decisions to make as to who is leading the franchise in 2025 and beyond.

One of the names that could be in the running…

Aaron Rodgers:

Aaron Rodgers named candidate for Steelers QB job in 2025

This is the most likely option outside of the Jets. Russell Wilson and Justin Fields are both free agents in 2025, so the Steelers will really need to look at their options. Maybe Wilson wants to stay, but he would certainly be much more expensive than he is now.

Rodgers probably wanted more control, and that's why he went to the Jets after years with the Packers. But it didn't work, so going to a franchise where he would be the quarterback, and nothing beyond that, with a respected head coach in Mike Tomlin would make sense.

It may seem like a bit of a swing, but when you break it all down, there is a real chance that the two sides could come together when the calendar flips to 2025.

It has become increasingly clear in the last few weeks that not only do the Jets want no part of Rodgers anymore, but Rodgers wants a fresh start:

As for Rodgers, his relationship with the owner has been strained for months — that’s not a secret in the building or the locker room. At this point, after conversations with sources with the team and around the league, my understanding is that Rodgers still wants to play in 2025, just not for the New York Jets.

Pittsbugh, but more specifically HC Mike Tomlin, is infatuated with veteran quarterbacks who boast championship pedigrees. This is part of the reason the team was so in on Russell Wilson last offseason and ultimately why Coach Tom pulled the plug on Justin Fields despite his 4-2 start.

And if Russell Wilson was the belle of the ball for Pittsburgh last March, what is a four-time MVP and undoubted surefire Hall of Famer who has a good relationship with Coach Tomlin going to be?

We"ll find out soon enough.
