NFL starting to get 'agitated' with Rodgers holdup
"I assume the Steelers would like a decision sooner rather than later. Not I assume, I know several members of the organization have said so," NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said on The Insiders. "It has been fascinating. You walk around these league meetings, talk to other general managers and coaches. How many different people have said, 'Hey, when's Rodgers going to make his decision?' It does seem like it has agitated everyone."
The truth is, the Steelers are getting a little tired of the Rodgers saga themselves. Owner Art Rooney said as much at the annual meetings, stating that he would wait out Rodgers' decision, but not much longer…
"Not forever, but a little while longer," said Rooney when asked if he's ok with waiting on Rodgers to make a decision. "We keep hearing that he's, I guess, headed in our direction, and so that seems to be all signs are positive so far. Didn't envision it taking this long."
The Steelers must have some certification in hand from Rodgers. You can portray all the confidence you want about Mason Rudolph via quotes, but with the core of the team on what could be their last run, you're not tying Super Bowl aspirations to a player who has played a backup role for the majority of his career.
"The Pittsburgh Steelers do remain optimistic. Based on everything I’m hearing, they are willing to wait this out," said ESPN's Jeremy Fowler. "And a lot of people I’ve talked to in the quarterback market, some sources close to Jameis Winston’s process, Russell Wilson, etc. They believe that Rodgers must have some sort of assurance from the Steelers, or vice versa, that they could end up together."
So everything is set. Rodgers has visited with them, his preferred options are off the table, and now, he's even throwing passes to Steelers stars. When he joins is the only question that remains.
