The Pittsburgh Steelers are only a month away from opening day against the San Francisco 49ers, yet there is still a huge question mark on offense.
Into our third week of training camp in Latrobe, the answer to who will play left tackle has yet to be solved, but there is a clear favorite.
But following his first public appearance in a while, Steelers assistant GM Andy Weidl may have just flipped the script:
Andy Weidl: "He's an Arrow up Guy"
"You see him working with Dan Moore every day & he's just learning & he's growing," said Weidl on behalf of rookie left tackle Broderick Jones. "And he's out there stacking days & it's a natural progression & we're watching him do it right now in front of our eyes. So he's an arrow up guy, & we're excited where he is headed."
Now this is likely Weidl just being optimistic, because unless he knows something the Steelers coaching staff doesn't, Jones is firmly behind Dan Moore Jr. to see who will win the starting role at left tackle.
Moore has taken the majority if not all of the first-team reps during team drills and was also listed as the starter on Pittsburgh's initial release of their 2023 depth chart.
But Jones has time to shake things up, starting this Friday when he plays in his first-ever game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Pittsbrugh's preseason opener.
Jones is easily the more athletic of the two and probably the better run blocker through this stage in camp.
But despite how much Pittsburgh wants to run the ball, this is a passing league at the end of the day, meaning your best pass protector is the one who plays left tackle.
Right now, that's Dan Moore Jr.
