A deal that felt like it was never too far away, the Pittsburgh Steelers and team captain Cam Heyward have agreed to a three year contract extension.

A little over 24 hours after being named a team captain yet again, the reigning Walter Payton Man of the Year winner has been rewarded for his services.

Things were a little touchy between Heyward and the Steelers in the spring, especially when he refused to report to OTAs amidst his contractual impasse.

Heyward also said on more than one occasion that while Pittsburgh was where he wanted to be, he would play elsewhere if he had to

"I don't wanna say how likely something is 'cause you just never know," Heyward told Jim Rome of The Jim Rome Show when asked about his contract situation. "Obviously, I would love to be a Pittsburgh Steeler for the rest of my career. Getting a contract would lay claim to that. My goal is to be a Pittsburgh Steeler this year and have a good year to hopefully come back and play more games with them…"…Obviously, I'd like to be in Pittsburgh, but if it comes to it, I will play in another city."

Well, it never came to it, and to be honest it never felt like it would. Once the Aiyuk saga came to an end, Pittsburgh shifted their focus to in-house matters, meaning Heyward may be far from the last extension we see done this week, with TE Pat Freiermuth and RB Najee Harris as potential names to look for before Sunday's game.
