How did a team that was at one time, 10-3, and with a shot at the first overall seed, end their season on a five-game losing streak?

A question that many who are fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers have been asking for weeks now, there has yet to be a clear answer.

Until Cam Heyward spoke up at this year's Pro Bowl that is…

Cam Heyward Explains Why the Steelers Season Ended The Way It Did

"I think the last couple games of the season, we really struggled,"Heyward said on Sirius XM Radio. "You never want to blame the schedule, but we played our toughest opponents at that time. We didn't really have any gel going into the playoffs. I think we can bounce back from it, but there are some things we need to clean up, there's a decision to be made at quarterback and I think we need to add a couple more parts. We will see what happens. I don't make those decisions and I'm happy I don't make those decisions because I'd like to have both of those guys back."

It's easy to push back against Heyward's comments about the schedule when you realize that the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs also faced three great opponents in 10 days and came through unscathed, with the latter playing in their third straight Super Bowl this week.

But the Steelers play a physical brand of ball, that frankly isn't built for three games in 10 days, whether it's against the Philadelphia Eagles, Ravens, and Chiefs or a trio of high school teams.

And perhaps that is some of the changes that Heyward is speaking to. Getting more multiple in their scheme and adding players who can do more than play downhill.

But he also hinted at needing to solve the biggest mystery of 2025, which is who will play QB come Week 1.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen, but [Russell Wilson, Justin Fields] know what they’re doing,” added Heyward. “I just hope we find a solution and a recipe for us to continue to win.”

I think Steelers fans would want to change the end of the statement from "continue to win," to win when it matters most because it's been a while since the team had a signal caller capable of such a feat.
