Typically, when the left tackle that starts the season misses a few games, and then gears up for a return to action, the team is ecstatic.
But if you're the Pittsburgh Steelers, you drafted the future of the left tackle position just a few months ago with the 14th overall pick.
Making matters even more difficult, that highly valued selection (Broderick Jones) is coming off his first career start, (a game where he looked excellent) yet he may be going back to the bench following the return of Dan Moore:
Who Gets The Nod?
Pittsburgh was back on the practice field yesterday, getting in a Monday walkthrough to shake off some of the cobwebs from the bye week before taking a trip to LA to meet the Rams this week.
And while the official practices and injury reports will start Wednesday, not only was incumbent starter Dan Moore Jr. back, but he was back in his original spot:
Starting Left Tackle.
The plan was always to work rookie Broderick Jones in slowly, but plans change fast in the NFL, especially when injuries occur. An MCL Sprain sidelined Moore, leaving Broderick as the man starting against the Ravens a couple of weeks back.
He passed with flying colors:
As for Moore, he has had his fair share of struggles this season, although Pittsburgh doesn't give him a lot of help, often placing him on an island against some of the best pass rushers in the league:
So we'll see how it plays out over the course of the week. If Thursday rolls around and Moore has exclusively taken first-team reps, then he will likely be starting. But even a splitting of the lion's share could bode well for Jones and keeping the job.
Time will tell.
