Steelers' DC says they will miss underrated rookie

If the Pittsburgh Steelers can hang their hat on anything, it's their ability to draft and develop talent.
So when you lose a player due to injury, even if he's a seventh-rounder, it hurts the Steelers given their team-building process.
Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin just admitted as much with Cory Trice out for the year:
"We're Going to Miss Him"
While Steelers defensive coordinator Teryl Austin was happy with the depth of the roster ahead of Tuesday's roster cutdown date, he wishes the team still had Cory Trice:
"We know we're going to miss Cory Trice in terms of providing depth in the secondary," said Austin.
And I completely agree. Trice was one of the highlights of the offseason, putting together promising performances in OTAs, minicamp, and even training camp before going down with a season-ending knee injury:
Austin knows that his absence takes the team from potentially great, to merely good in the secondary. Trice was a player who was a day-two pick at worst if not for his injury history, and all arrows were pointing up for him heading into the season.
The cornerback room in Pittsburgh is still good, but if the top four included Trice to pair with Levi Wallace, Pat Pete and Peezy Jr. this unit could have been one of the best in the league.
But the Steelers can't worry about that anymore, they are in the present and currently working on creating the best 53-man roster for 2023. And while it may not contain Trice in the secondary, I believe Mike Tomlin, Omar Khan, and Teryl Austin will fill his shoes with the next best thing.
