If there is a cardinal sin in the football world, it's calling another man "soft."

Players would rather be called garbage or told they suck, than have anyone but especially a peer call them soft.

Well, that's exactly what Pittsburgh Steelers safety DeShon Elliott said about his former team, the Miami Dolphins:

DeShon Elliott Calls Dolphins 'Soft'

“I haven’t been able to play against Baltimore the way I wanted to because last year, I played for a team that was soft as f—", Elliott said on The Punch Line Podcast with Marlon Humphrey. "Oh my God. I can’t put that on there. That was pretty soft. The guys on the team — there were some guys who were tough — but the majority of the team, they were not mentally tough individuals. So, to be on a full team of mentally tough guys, going against another mentally tough team and AFC North ball, it’s going to be fun.”

For context, Elliott played for the Dolphins last year, but he is also a former member of the Baltimore Ravens, hence his friendship and appearance on star Ravens CB Marlon Humphrey's podcast.

Elliott has been a revelation in the Steelers' secondary, as he pairs perfectly alongside Minkah Fitzpatrick and plays with a tone-setting mentality that had been missing on the back end of Pittsburgh's defense. He will undoubtedly be amped up to face his former teammate in what is shaping up to be the game of the year on Sunday.

So if anyone has the equity to call someone, or a team soft, it's someone like Elliott. But that doesn't mean you should do it, especially when former teammates still form an elite fraternity of NFL players.

“He's not here for a reason, obviously. I don't know why he would go on a podcast and say anything crazy like that," Miami Dolphins DB Kader Kohou told David Furones of The Sun Sentinel when asked about Elliott's comments.

“If that's how he feels, that’s how he feels. He could have gone on the podcast and said what he wanted to say without trying to throw shots at us. I feel like, when he leaves the Steelers and goes to another team, he’ll probably do the same thing. I got no respect for it. I didn't think DeShon was the toughest guy.”
