The Pittsburgh Steelers once upon a time saw Kenny Pickett throw passes to Diontae Johnson.

After a windy road for both of them, Pickett won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles, while Johnson has just been trying to stay in the league.

And now, they are both on the same team…

Browns sign WR Diontae Johnson

The Browns are signing veteran WR Diontae Johnson, sources say. Cleveland brought the former Steelers and Ravens pass catcher in for a visit today, and the sides then agreed to a deal. Back to the AFC North for Johnson.

The last time we saw Diontae Johnson in the division, he was being suspended by the Baltimore Ravens after violating team rules before being released. That was before he signed with the Houston Texans, who would also end up releasing him.

The Diontae Johnson situation in Baltimore could not have gone much worse if he and the Ravens tried. He ended his tenure with the birds catching just one pass and making headlines for refusing to go into a game against the Philadelphia Eagles, which caused him to be suspended and ultimately released.

And now, he heads back to the AFC North, and with his former QB, whom the Cleveland Browns traded for this offseason. So it's a wild headspin of irony and Deja Vu for Johnson and Pickett.

The Steelers moved on from both in the 2023 offseason, trading them to the whole other conference. And now, there's a chance that if Pickett wins the starting job, the Steelers defense will be reliving practice from 2022-2023 all over again.

Of course, the situation is muddied at QB in Cleveland. Ever since trading for Pickett, the Browns have signed Joe Flacco and drafted Dillon Gabriel as well as Shedeur Sanders. But if Johnson can keep his head on straight and Pickett wins the starting job, it could make for two very interesting games in 2025.
