At some point, when people tell you who they are, you have to listen.
The Pittsburgh Steelers found that out the hard way with former Pro Bowl WR Diontae Johnson.
And after some puzzling comments from HC John Harbaugh, the Baltimore Ravens are finding out what Steelers fans have known all along:
John Harbaugh won't comment on Diontae Johnson's playing time
"Yes, I’m not really ready to comment on that right now," said Ravens HC John Harbaugh when asked about Johnson not playing in the Ravens loss to the Philadelphia Eagles despite injuries in the WR corps. "I will be, [but I] just don’t have enough information right now to talk about that.”
An odd comment from a HC, it may be presumptuous to assume something is going on behind the scenes between Johnson and the Ravens, but given his checkered past and drama with the Pittsburgh Steelers, it's fair to assume something is off between he and the coaching staff.
Many were left questioning the Steelers' decision to trade Johnson to the Panthers in the offseason, netting CB Donte Jackson in return. It's not even an argument as to who won that trade, however, as Jackson recorded his 5th interception of the season against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, marking a career high for him.
As for the Carolina Panthers, and more specifically Diontae Johnson, they parted ways with him for a late-round pick from Baltimore, and Johnson has just one reception in a Ravens uniform.
It was thought to be a headline-worthy statement when Coach Tomlin said that he wasn't worried about facing Diontae Johnson a few weeks back in the team's first matchup with Baltimore, but he was telling the honest truth when he said the team had other pass catchers to worry about.
"To be honest with you, I hadn't thought a lot about it," said Tomlin when asked about facing Diontae Johnson for the first time. "He's not on a lot of their video, and so at this stage of the week, I don't know that I've weighed what he might mean to the matchup. They got more significant pieces with larger roles that are occupying my attention at this part of the week."
We'll see if that changes come the second go-round in a little less than three weeks.
