Steelers set to host dynamic playmaker who shined on one of the NFL's biggest stages in an effort to bolster their WR room

When the Pittsburgh Steelers started OTAs last week, there was a sense of optimism in the air.  Sure, T.J. When the Pittsburgh Steelers started OTAs last week, there was a sense of optimism in the air.

Sure, T.J. Watt wasn't around, and neither was their presumptive starting QB, Aaron Rodgers, but at least everyone else was right?

Wrong. DK Metcalf wasn't there either, and when the Steelers looked around their playmaking unit, they said, "Boy, we need some help."

They may have their answer…

Before we dive into Davis, the Steelers were refuted on their trade request of Jonnu Smith, who seems more so to be leveraging himself for a new contract with the Miami Dolphins as opposed to trying to get out of town.

Smith had a lot of ties and connections to Pittsburgh thanks to OC Arthur Smith, but sources have said that the Steelers are more interested in a WR over a TE, hence the move to bring in Davis.

And while the Steelers don't have direct ties to Davis, they are very familiar with his game. During his best season in the NFL back in 2022 with the Buffalo Bills, he started the calendar year off on a tear against the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs.

Davis exploded onto the national scene with eight catches for over 200 yards and four touchdowns in the divisional round.

He would pick up right where he left off when the regular season rolled around, putting up career highs in receiving yards and yards per reception while tying a career best seven receiving TDs.

Part of these stats came against, you guessed it, the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he torched them for 171 yards and two TDs on only three catches.

Davis would go on to sign a hefty deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars last offseason, but he had a down year in 2024 and the team parted ways with him during their regime change this offseason.

Still, at only 26 years old and a season removed from 700+ receiving yards and 7 TDs, Davis would be a huge upgrade to a playmaking group that desperately needs it.
