George Pickens' parting shot at the city of Pittsburgh was disappointing, but not very surprising to many Steelers fans

George Pickens backs out of youth football camp
Prior to being traded to the Dallas Cowboys, George Pickens was scheduled to host a youth football camp in the city of Pittsburgh on Saturday, June 28th. Pickens, according to the sponsor of the event, TruEdge, said he would attend the event even after the Steelers traded him. But then he decided late last week to back out on the camp:
"As many of you know, George Pickens was traded to the Dallas Cowboys on May 7, read the email from TruEdge. "Immediately following the trade, our team contacted George's representation to confirm whether he would still honor his commitment to the Pittsburgh event. We were promptly assured that George remained committed to the camp and intended to show up for the families who had registered. Based on that confirmation, we communicated this directly to you via email and text on May 9 . . .
" . . . Unfortunately, as of last week, TruEdge was notified by George's team that he has decided to walk back on his word and is no longer interested in attending the camp. Let us be very clear: we are deeply frustrated by this decision and the position it has placed all of us in."
The saving grace in all of this is Steelers TE Pat Freiermuth, who has stepped up, along with a few other Steelers players, to host the camp on July 20th, per the email. Nonetheless, it's just par for the course when it comes to Pickens and the character concerns that clouded his time in Pittsburgh.
But it's one thing to be called out by your head coach for penalties or incur fines from the league office because you can't keep your hands to yourself. It's another to back out on kids and parents who gave up hard-earned money so their children could spend the day with one of their favorite football players.
Aaron Rodgers admits there is one thing he wants to accomplish with Steelers, and it could mean more than any game he wins in 2025
That would be great for the franchise.
