The Pittsburgh Steelers have known they were playing in Ireland in 2025 for a few months now.
What they have been waiting on, however, was who they would play and when the game would take place.
Now they know…
Steelers to play Vikings in Ireland, Week 4, September 28th, 2025
This will be the first time in NFL history that two teams have played each other in three different countries, as the Steelers and the Minnesota Vikings have now played in the U.S., the United Kingdom and come September, Ireland. It will also be the fourth different stadium in the two teams' last four meetings,
It will be an early start, with the game slated for kickoff at 9:30 am Eastern Standard Time.
“The Rooney's immigrated from Ireland back in the 1800s,” Steelers owner and team president Art Rooney II said to Sky Sports back in September. “There’s a long history, a long connection. On my mother’s side, my grandparents came over back in the 1920s, so a lot of relatives are still over in Ireland. I go back and visit them from time to time, and of course, my father wound up being the Ambassador to Ireland for a while. A lot of deep connections for us over there…"
…Sometime over the next few years, we’re really looking forward to playing a game over in Dublin.”
The NFL's global conquest continues to take shape, and bringing a game to Ireland only makes sense. The Black and Gold is strong in the land of Green and throughout Europe for what it's worth. The NFL went to Brazil for the first time last year, and now they have their eyes set on not only Ireland but Spain…
"We are definitely going to Spain, we announced that," NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said earlier this year. "We expect to return to Mexico City. We expect to return to Brazil. We will certainly be back in the U.K. And we're also looking at the potential of another game in the U.K. area in Ireland, possibly. That's a possibility. And we'll certainly be back here in Germany. So if that total's eight, that's what we're shooting for."
There was talk for a while that the Green Bay Packers would be the Steelers' opponent in Ireland, given the notoriety of the two organizations and their worldwide reach. That game will likely be reserved for a primetime fixture in the United States, especially with all signs pointing towards Aaron Rodgers joining the Steelers.
We'll find out officially when the NFL releases the 2025 NFL schedule on May 14th.
