Packers having trade talks regarding CB Jaire Alexander

Sources: The Packers have had trade conversations centered around star CB Jaire Alexander and they are open to moving him for the right price. Alexander, still just 28 and a two-time Pro Bowler, is considered to be the most decorated CB available. Jaire Alexander’s contract, which was front-loaded, has just two years and $37M left — very tradable. GM Brian Gutekunst said “we’ll see” when asked if Alexander will be on the team. “We’re working through that. He certainly could be. But we’ll work through that as we go.”

There was a time not so long ago when Jaire Alexander was in the running for best CB in the league. A Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro who started every game he played in 2022, Alexander has played in a total of 14 games the last two seasons, but it wasn't always because of injury that he wasn't suited up.

Despite practicing in full capacities, Alexander was still inactive down the stretch of last season for the Green Bay Packers, with many seeing the writing on the wall back then.

So whether it's injuries or just time for a split, Alexander is likely on his way out. But according to Packers beat writer and cap expert Wendell Ferreira of A to Z Sports, the Packers could drive a hard bargain…

The Packers don't have a trigger date on Jaire Alexander's contract. So while the team could want to make a decision as soon as possible, there isn't any type of roster bonus forcing the Packers to trade or release Alexander in March.

That means Green Bay can simply keep the former All-Pro player on the roster entering the new league year and through Week 1 in September, waiting to see if there's a team willing to acquire the defensive back."
