The Pittsburgh Steelers need a lot of things right now.

A QB, some DL help, and another CB to name a few.

A third-down running back? Not so much, but that is exactly what the Steelers decided do with their second offseason signing…

Steelers agree to terms with RB Kenneth Gainwell

The Steelers are finalizing a 1-year with former Eagles RB Kenneth Gainwell. Gainwell, who had 1,906 total yards and 13 TDs in four years with Philly, stays in the state of Pennsylvania. With Najee Harris headed to the Chargers, Kenneth Gainwell will immediately step in and play a key role in the Steelers’ backfield — alongside Jaylen Warren and Cordarrelle Patterson.

Gainwell will be the gadget player on the Steelers' offense, working in on these downs and making plays in the passing game as a hybrid utility player. What he is not, by any means is a Najee Harris replacement.

That's no shot at Gainwell because it's unlikely that Jaylen Warren will be either. The Steelers will undoubtedly be drafting a running back in April, with the only question being how high.

So it's a good depth addition. But as the days continue and there is no resolution from Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers regarding their QB decision, the fanbase isn't exactly moved by a third-string RB signing.

And in fairness to the Steelers, their free-agent plans have been put on hold as they figure out their plans at QB. Of course, they swung the huge trade and deal for DK Metcalf, but since, they have only signed Malik Harrison while watching multiple starters walk.

There is still some time left as the league year doesn't even open until Wednesday afternoon and of course, the NFL Draft is on the horizon and that's where the Steelers do their best work.
