By all accounts, Kenny Pickett's NFL career has been a success.
A champion that took snaps in a Super Bowl, after just three years he has accomplished something that the best signal callers of all time haven't.
Except, he did that as a backup for the Philadelphia Eagles as opposed to as a starter for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
And after things ended on less than great terms, Pickett is headed back to the 412…
Kenny Pickett to coach in Pitt Panthers spring game
“I got to talk to Avonte Maddox, I think we might be coaching against each other,” Pickett recently told 93.7 The Fan. “So, I gotta get him on the phone and we’ll see. But I’m really excited for it, really excited to get back to Pitt and see all the guys, see all the coaches and see how the team is looking this year.”
A first-round pick who was out of Pittsburgh less than two years into his tenure, there is no debating that Pickett got a raw deal. Narratives were formed against him, and while he probably was never the right pick for the Steelers or any team in round one, he's where he belongs now and that's all that matters.
“The offseason was crazy. Everyone’s journey is different. It’s the NFL. It’s a tough league,” Pickett said on 93.7 The Fan. “So I’m kind of just taking it a day at a time, being where my feet are, putting everything into my craft, working hard. We’ll see what happens. So that’s really just where my mindset’s at. I’m loving Philly. I loved my time in Pittsburgh, so I’m excited to head into year four next.”
Pickett is a college football legend for the Pitt Panthers. After leading them to a conference championship and being named a Heisman finalist, he became an even bigger hometown hero after being drafted by the Steelers.
But things didn't work out and now he is quite literally in and on to bigger and better things.
