Heading into Sunday, the Pittsburgh Steelers had to be content with playing for the third seed in the AFC playoff race.

After beating the Cleveland Browns and holding firm in their lead over the Baltimore Ravens within the AFC North, Pittsburgh received some help and a newfound emphasis at a higher seed later in the day.

That was thanks to the Los Angeles Rams, who beat the Buffalo Bills and created an opening for the black and gold:

The Bills surprise loss against the Rams gave Buffalo the same record as the Steelers, though they still hold the two seed thanks to the strength of victory. However, should the Steelers take care of the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens in the next two weeks things will get very interesting.

Should Kansas City and Buffalo drop one more game, Christmas Day's marquee matchup of Chiefs and Steelers could have massive implications on who walks away with the number one overall seed in the AFC and a first-round bye.

And those implications nearly came into play on Sunday night, when Chiefs kicker Matthew Wright doinked the ball of the upright against the Los Angeles Chargers, only it worked out in his favor:

Pittsburgh currently has a 76% chance of winning the division following Sunday's slate, and they have two playoff scenarios they can wrap in the next two weeks. A win against the Eagles clinches a playoff berth and a win against the Ravens wins them the AFC North.

It's a far cry from the offseason when many thought this would be the first year that the Steelers would falter and head under .500, as the team is instead on the path for the playoffs and potentially, their 7th Lombardi.
