The Pittsburgh Steelers have known they will be playing the San Francisco 49ers for a few months now.
What they haven't known, is who will be the starting quarterback for the 49ers come week one.
Well, following yesterday's news, they just got some insight into who is likely to be leading San Francisco when they open the season in Pittsburgh:
Brock Purdy Cleared for Training Camp

Following the opening of 49ers camp yesterday, San Francisco GM John Lynch announced that Brock Purdy has been fully cleared to participate in training camp and will not start the season on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list.
"Brock is cleared and ready to go," Lynch said. "Having said that, we're sticking and we're adhering to a plan that's been put in place for some time."
After suffering an injury in the NFC championship game that caused him to lose feeling in his throwing arm, there was genuine concern that Purdy may not be the same player that he was, even if the sample size was small.
But not only is Purdy progressing at warp speed when it comes to injury, he's also on track to get back to leading the team and starting at quarterback for the 49ers:
"He will when he's out there," HC Kyle Shanahan said when asked if Purdy would be with the starters. "The throwing plan's a little different. We're never going to have him go three days in a row."
And that's smart as the 49ers ease him back in, even if Pittsburgh fans were hoping for some more parody at the position.
So while it's not the news Steelers fans wanted to hear, it sets up to be a terrific week one matchup, as the reigning NFC West champions will seemingly be at full go. Time will tell if Purdy is 100%, but you have to assume he will be close given the timetable he has already passed.
And while Steelers fans were likely looking forward to a Trey Lance, or even Sam Darnold lead team, players in the NFL want to compete at their best, something we will hopefully see coming opening Sunday in Pittsburgh.
