The Pittsburgh Steelers put out an embarrassing product on Christmas.
A game that was close for all of about five seconds against the Kansas City Chiefs, it was a case of Bah Humbug, for many Steelers fans.
And HC Mike Tomlin was a Grinch:
Mike Tomlin scorns Steelers' play against Chiefs
"Performing like that, coupled with lack of situational play, making red zone defense, and making people settle for field goals as opposed to touchdowns, the game is going to look like that. Gotta score more than 10 points against an outfit like that," said Tomlin after the game. "And so, you know, you can look at it from a lot of angles…
"…The bottom line is, that was junior varsity and is not good enough. We have to own that, but we also have to look at what it is we need to do differently. We're not going to continue to do the same things and hope for a different result that doesn't seem sharply and so we're gonna take a hard look at this. We got a couple extra days, but we're gonna get back and do it. We're gonna take a look at it and make whatever necessary changes we need to make in the totality of this thing. Because, again, that doesn't feel good. It doesn't look good."
It's a case of deja vu for Steelers fans, as it is yet another December collapse, and the team has lost their best chance at an AFC North crown. Pittsburgh has only two games left that are guaranteed.
A date to close out the regular season against the Cincinnati Bengals, and of course their playoff berth.
But the truth is, if Pitsburgh plays like they have the last few weeks, it will be yet another one and done in the playoffs, and maybe time for some serious change.
Steelers HC Mike Tomlin won’t comment on fans leaving early despite waving the white flag vs. Chiefs
He’s “Singularly focused.”
