Following six straight playoff losses and another one-and-done in the postseason, Pittsburgh Steelers fans are ready for a change.
Many believe that should include parting ways with Mike Tomlin, and acquiring draft capital in return via trade.
And while a recent report ruled out such a possibility, Art Rooney may be changing his mind when seeing what the Dallas Cowboys just decided…
Cowboys move on from HC Mike McCarthy, opening the door for a possible Tomlin trade
“I don’t think the Tomlin trade happens yet, but at some point, it might,” an NFL executive told The Athletic's Mike Sando. “Everybody will disappear for a few days, but then somebody is going to ask about staff changes, and if Tomlin bows up, that is when there could be problems. That’s what happened with Pete Carroll in Seattle last year.”
The opinion of the executive is a stark contrast from the reporting of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette's Gerry Dulac, and ESPN's Adam Schefter, who stated that Tomlin is likely to continue his career as HC of the Steelers.
Despite a widespread public outcry and another embarrassing early exit from the postseason, the Steelers are not planning to make any move involving coach Mike Tomlin, according to team sources.

“I don't see the Steelers trading Mike Tomlin. I just don't see it," Adam Schefter said on Monday's version of the Pat McAfee show. "Now, again, things can always change, but I don't see them being interested in trading Mike Tomlin, no matter who calls them and who checks in to see whether or not he's available.”
And while the Steelers front office and more specifically owner Art Rooney may not have any such plans, the Cowboys may have other ideas. Owner Jerry Jones is one of the more impulsive in the NFL, and if he wants Mike Tomlin, he might be willing to move Heaven and Earth to get him.
So if we're talking about a first-round pick and a player, how do you say no to that if you're Rooney? And if you're Coach Tomlin (who has a no-trade clause) how do you refuse to take on a head coaching role of the most valuable franchise in all of sports?
So right when it looked like Dallas and McCarthy were headed for renewal, they decided to split, and it could work to the Steelers' benefit.
