The Pittsburgh Steelers offense is once again a question mark heading into 2024.
A trend that owner and team president Art Rooney II is tired of seeing, his offseason remarks included wanting to see tangible signs of growth on offense, meaning more points.
But when asked about that on Monday, Coach T didn't seem to be buying what his boss was selling:
Tomlin Not Seeking Comfort
"I'm not interested in making you comfortable today, to be quite honest with you," Tomlin told a reporter who asked if the offense has the firepower capable of meeting Rooney's expectations of points. "Those are just words and really at the end of the day it's somewhat meaningless. We'll have an opportunity to put some tape out there this weekend that's kind of reflective of that discussion. I'm more of a doer than a talker. Talking glowingly, particularly when you're undefeated this time of year, is easy, and I'm not attracted to easy. We're just gonna work and we're gonna put some tape out there that's kind of reflective of our intentions."
The Steelers' offense has a chance to be more efficient and in turn, able to score more points. But the firepower isn't the kind that you think of when noting the Kansas City Chiefs or division rival Cincinnati Bengals.
Instead of 11 personnel groupings where Burrow and Mahomes are throwing the ball to all of their weapons on the perimeter, Pittsburgh will opt for torque over horsepower.
They will look to bludgeon and beat down opponents with their stable of backs and tight ends, utilizing rookies like Troy Fautanu in the run game, then hitting deep shots off play action to George Pickens, Roman Wilson, and the rest of the lot.
So more points are certainly possible, but maybe not in the capacity that most think of.
