If you're reading this, then you likely have heard about the historic firing out of Pittsburgh.

Firing a coach in-season for the first time since before WW2, the Steelers, and Matt Canada are no longer tied at the hip

Mike Tomlin just told us why waiting any longer to make the move wasn't feasible:

"Results"

"The biggest crux of it was results," said Coach Tomlin when asked why he fired Matt Canada now. The results speak for themselves, man. We're in a result-oriented business. I often say, you know, football is our game, our business is winning. We weren't winning enough and fluidly enough and that's just the reality of it."

What are the results you ask? Let me show you:

Since 2021, the offense has ranked 28th in points and yards, failing to allocate a 400-yard output over the last 58 games. As for this season, Pittsburgh has a -29 point differential, has been outgained in every game, ranks 28th in points per game and offensive yards per game, and is 31st in passing yards per game.

So as Coach T said, the results do in fact speak for themselves. But the offense didn't suddenly get bad. As those numbers show, the offense has been inept for nearly three years.

But things reached a boiling point after the Browns game. The team lacked any semblance of a drop-back passing game despite having one of the better group of perimeter players in the league.

Now some of that is on Kenny Pickett, but when you only score 10 points, and then your starting RB is visibly distraught, along with other murmurs that speak to potential lockerroom problems, Pittsburgh had no choice but to make the move, even if goes against everything they stand for.
