Just a couple of weeks ago, the sky was falling in Pittsburgh.
In the middle of a three-game losing skid, there was public outrage, in-fighting among teammates, and rumors circulating about Mike Tomlin's future in Pittsburgh.
But the ever-steady ball coach just put his head down and went to work, and now he has made history after recording yet another winning season:
Mike Tomlin Surpases George Halas
Since taking over for Bill Cowher, Pittsburgh Steelers HC Mike Tomlin has yet to finish under .500 even in the rockiest parts of his tenure over the past two years.
After starting 2-6 last year with Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett the team rallied to go 7-2 down the stretch.
Pittsburgh didn't look great earlier this year, but they were functional and in prime position for the playoffs at 7-4 through Week 12.
But then came a Kenny Pickett injury that sidelined him and caused the Steelers to drop three in a row and go to 7-7 with three winning teams left on their schedule.
Pittsburgh and Tomlin proved that the noise was just that however, winning two games as an underdog with Mason Rudolph to set up a potential playoff run should the Steelers receive some help and win their third in a row on Saturday in Baltimore.
So for all the flack that Coach T catches and all the criticism he draws, he continues to pile up winning seasons.
Pittsburgh clearly has higher standards than 9-8 or 10-7 though, meaning the record is commendable but is starting to fall on deaf ears even among the staunchest of Tomlin supporters.
We'll see if he and the Steelers can go further in the near future.
Steelers’ Mason Rudolph won’t be giving Kenny Pickett his job back
Here is a look at why Rudolph may have just cemented his spot as the starting QB in Pittsburgh.
