Two things that coincide with the Pittsburgh Steelers are the noise surrounding Mike Tomlin and the Steelers' inability to find a franchise quarterback post Big Ben.

A problem that has been magnified given the current state of the quarterback room, some in the media wonder if it's time for a full reset in Pittsburgh.

And using a trade to do so…

Should Steelers trade Mike Tomlin for franchise quarterback?

“You know what? Coming into the offseason, I said that the Pittsburgh Steelers should seriously entertain trading Mike Tomlin, said Damien Woody of ESPN when asked about methods for finding a franchise quarterback. "I really felt like the Pittsburgh Steelers should have traded Mike Tomlin for a couple reasons. Number one, Pittsburgh Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since what, 2016? It’s been almost a decade since the Pittsburgh Steelers, the six-time Super Bowl champions, have won a playoff game…

"…Three presidential inaugurations. That’s been a long time. We all know and recognize the greatness of Mike Tomlin. We know he’s never had a losing season, but we’ve seen this over and over and over again. And even Mike Tomlin himself has always said the standard is the standard. Well, what’s the standard in Pittsburgh, the standard as an organization? It’s always about championships.”

Now before we begin, for this to even happen, Mike Tomlin would have to waive his no-trade clause. If he and the Steelers came to terms on that (which isn't too far-fetched given the Steelers are unlikely to ever fire Coach T), the question is, who is giving up a franchise quarterback for Mike Tomlin?

The two most important positions in football are quarterback and head coach. Go look at the history of the league and the dynasties that have followed. Terry Bradshaw and Chuck Noll, Joe Montana and Bill Walsh, Troy Aikman and Jimmy Johnson, Tom Brady and Bill Belichick, and now Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.

It takes two to tango. So unless said team gives up a second-round pick for Coach T and has the first overall pick in the draft, it wouldn't make much sense. And if you have the first overall pick in the draft, you likely don't have a franchise quarterback.

So while it's a neat idea, it's one that doesn't exactly have the legs to get off the ground.
