In what was arguably the most polarizing news of the day last Tuesday (ok not really), the Pittsburgh Steelers traded for WR Mike Williams.
It was met with a significant amount of criticism given the draft capital that Pittsburgh sent the New York Jets, which was a fifth-round pick in the upcoming draft.
But in his first game with the Steelers, when the team needed him most and on his mere 9th snap of the game, the recently acquired WR did what he's done best his whole career:
Win deep.
Mike Williams Calls Game against Commanders
"He's a veteran guy and he's a quick study," HC Mike Tomlin said of Williams after the game. "We didn't throw everything at him, but we threw enough, particularly the one-dimensional ball in passing circumstances. We didn't want him over there standing with us at the weightiest of moments."
Well, in the moment that weighed more than any other, it was Williams, not George Pickens or Calvin Austin III or Roman Wilson (who's on I.R.) that came up with the game sealing TD catch.
Of course, the poise and precision from QB Russell Wilson is to be applauded, but for a player that looked to be on the lamb in New York after butting heads with Aaron Rodgers, and with only three practices under his belt in Pittsburgh, I would say Williams did just fine.
Mind you, if not for that catch and subsequent win, Mike Tomlin would have been facing a lot of tough music after the botched fourth down attempt that gave the Commanders an easy TD and put them right back into a game that Pittsburgh was running away with.
But it's all in the past now, and for Williams, it was a walk-off win in a debut and a start to his Steelers career that he won't forget.
We'll see if he can keep it up against the Baltimore Ravens next week.

That was too close for comfort.
