Mitch Trubisky's tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers will likely go down as a stretch of his career that he wants to forget.

After signing to be the starter in 2022, then re-signing to be the league's highest paid backup in 2023, Pittsburgh cut Trubisky just days ago

Well, Per Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, it seems Trubisky was doomed from the start:

Trubisky Didn't Stand A Chance

Trubisky never stood a chance with the Steelers. Six weeks after he was signed to a two-year, $14.3 million contract in free agency in March 2022, the Steelers took Pickett with their No. 1 pick in the draft. That night, Trubisky was a little surprised by a text message that, among other things, asked him to text and congratulate the newest Steelers quarterback. No wonder he played as though he was always looking over his shoulder after that.

Now look, Trubisky should have seen the writing on the wall, as Pittsburgh was rumored to be in the QB market throughout the pre-draft process two years ago.

But the fact that Trubisky was pretty much forced to reach out to Pickett is one of the oddest things you will see reported.

QBs in the NFL routinely have to play the mentor role, one that Trubusky settled into fairly quickly after Pickett became the starter during his rookie year.

But when one of your first tasks as the starting QB for a team is to congratulate the rookie signal caller that was drafted to be the future, Dulac is right to say he never had a chance.
