The Pittsburgh Steelers have let it be known that things are changing this offseason.
Gone are the days of promoting within when it comes to offensive staffing.
Instead, Pittsburgh will hire from outside the organization, but don’t expect it to be a former Steelers QB who also won a ring as a play caller:
Steelers Out On Leftwich
“It is not going to be Leftwich,” Kaboly said in an interview on 93.7 the Fan when asked about Pittsburgh's next OC. “I could tell you who not more than who it’s going to be.”
When the Steelers were struggling early on in 2023, Leftwich reportedly reached out to the team in an effort to offer his services but the organization decided to stick with Canada before firing him and promoting Mike Sullivan and Eddie Faulkner.
Leftwich won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 as an OC, but he was hurried out of town after Tom Brady’s last season in the NFL, with many placing blame on his static offense as a reason behind the team's lack of success.
The Steelers said thanks but no thanks back then when it came to Leftwich’s proposal, and according to Kaboly, things won’t be changing in the official hiring process, even if fans would like to see their former backup QB back with the team in a coaching role.
